Early Life and Career

Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi was born on March 26, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the daughter of Thomas J. D'Alesandro Jr., a former Mayor of Baltimore, and Annunciata M. D'Alesandro. Pelosi graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and later earned a Master's degree in public policy from Georgetown University.

Pelosi began her political career in 1974 when she became a volunteer for the Democratic National Committee. She was elected to the California State Assembly in 1982 and served there until 1986.

Speaker of the House

In 1987, Pelosi was elected to the United States House of Representatives to represent California's 5th congressional district. She served as the House Minority Whip from 2002 to 2007, and as the House Minority Leader from 2007 to 2011.

In 2007, Pelosi became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives. She held this position until 2011, and again from 2019 to 2023.

Recent Accomplishments

In recent years, Pelosi has been a strong advocate for progressive policies, including healthcare reform, environmental protection, and gun control.
